What to do when the Big “C” comes knocking on your door…

Here’s what Daymond John of Shark Tank fame did.

So while sitting in the waiting room, for yet another follow up appointment after my four day hospital stay, I tripped over this magazine.

Daymon was featured on the cover and it turned out there was a write up about his bout of cancer from 2017.

Say what!?

I did not know that and I am a huge Shark Tank fan.

Daymon’s net worth is $350 million due to his streetwear brand FUBU.

He has an amazing rags to riches story of having grown up in the Queens with his mom and he’s since made over 6 billion dollars in global sales.

So fair to say, he is a shark.

After some deep reflection he made up his mind that cancer is going to hate him.

“I have the will to fight. I’m going to show people I’m going to fight.”

We all face this in one way or another when something bad happens, cancer or not.

He made up his mind to crush cancer with his fist!

Here are the changes he dove into with Gusto…

Change #1. Start slimming down with constant motion. He routinely walks 10 miles a day while conducting his business, rather than sitting at a desk.

Change #2. Drink 10 bottles of water a day. Three before noon.

Change #3. Mixes up a variety of activities with weight lifting.

Change #4. Natural food with a focus on anti-inflammatory foods.

Change #5. Cutting back on alcohol and ultimately he cut it out altogether.

Change #6. Stay accountable to his Shark Tank buddies

He likens his wellness plan to a corporate playbook so he evaluates his wellness plan every three months and makes adjustments as needed.

“Health is something you’re constantly working on - just like a business.”

But we’re not done…

He also actively revises a list of short and long term goals and reads them once in the morning and again in the evening.

That’s one tip I’m definitely adding into my own list to fight for my wellness.

The war against poor health and especially the Big “C” begins with a will to fight and to make all necessary changes to win the war - which Daymond did!

Six years later he is free and clear of cancer after the partial removal of his thyroid.

That’s what you call an inspiring story.

I share this because my recent hospital stay served as a HUGE wake up call.

In a sense, for me I am going through both an identity shift along with a recommitment to better health and wellness, which makes it all the more challenging.

I’m addressing the identity shift in a separate email so for now I’ll lay out my own Wellness Plan and then you can consider what yours might look like.

Change #1. 30 grams of fiber per day

Change #2: Anti-inflammatory diet - inflammation is what sent me to the hospital!

Change #2. Daily commitment to walking and rowing

Change #3: Weights and calisthenics every day at home or at the gym

Change #4. Deep breathing exercises to lower blood pressure

Change #5. Going to sleep earlier (11pm the latest!)

Most of this is stuff I was already doing with the exception of the fiber commitment.

If you’re wondering why, it’s because my hospital stay was diagnosed as diverticulitis with an unknown 3 inch mass outside my colon.

This was when the Big “C” was mentioned along with a possible reconstructive surgery.

Say what?! May it never be.

As it turns out the mass was deemed “resolved” from a CT scan two weeks after my release.

Seriously, it was just as I thought it would be. 🙂

Personally I don’t think we can overcommit to our health.

So as you see fit, email me back at connect@annsieg.com and let me know where you’re at in your life and your commitment to a personal Wellness Plan.

I’d love to hear from you!
