my mom's retirement struggle (mine too!)

my mom's retirement struggle (mine too!)

So if you haven’t heard my news yet I want to reinforce that after over a decade of serving members through our E-Commerce Business School we are closing our doors. If you didn’t get the details you can check out my video here.

This has left a huge vacuum in my life.

My heart is broken for all the love I poured into our EBS staff and community.

It’s been heart wrenching. But now, what to do next… ? Who am I? What’s my new identity? So yes, while I am needing more time to take care of my health I am a go-getter by nature.

I am not at all accustomed to sitting around figuring out what to do with myself. No! Give me a list, consider it done! Give me a mountain to climb, I’ll climb it! Give me a challenge, I’ll knock that door down! But sit back and chill? I start to get restless real fast. So I called my mom to share with her how much of a struggle this is for me. This feeling of being, well… lost in the woods. She said she felt the same way when she made a very difficult decision to retire from her teaching career.

She was the head of Title One for our school district and she absolutely loved her work. I definitely learned my love for learning, teaching and mentoring from my mamma. She has been an amazing role model for me.

It’s no wonder I formed my own online school!

My mom chose to retire mostly because my dad has since retired so she felt the need to quit her job and be home to spend time with her sweetie pie.

They’ve been married now for 70 years!!

But the funny thing is my mom turned around pretty quickly to do what she’s really good at: teaching and organizing activities with groups of people.

Before I knew it she had organized a handful of book study and poetry clubs. She joined a women’s choir.

Next, she quickly filled the gap of writing and literature classes, not just for my three sons that I was homeschooling, but opened it up to the homeschool coop I was a part of.

Her retirement created an incredible legacy for my family.

I’ll never forget bringing the boys over to grandma’s house to read Shakespeare plays. No wonder two of my sons got heavily involved in theater.

All three of my boys became outstanding writers much in part due to my mamma. She found her way and so too will I.

It’s a process. It’s a journey.

I’m certain you’ve had similar experiences in your life. Perhaps right now you’re in the exact same situation.

I say, let’s link arms and journey together.

It’s best to come together as a community. I know we’ll be better and stronger for it.
